Travel alert issued for North Dakota, excluding northeast

Heavy snow that's creating snow-covered roads and areas of reduced visibility around much of North Dakota has prompted the state Department of Transportation to issue a travel alert. Only the state's northeast portion is excluded.

Heavy snow that's creating snow-covered roads and areas of reduced visibility around much of North Dakota has prompted the state Department of Transportation to issue a travel alert. Only the state's northeast portion is excluded.

Here's the alert:

"The North Dakota Department of Transportation has issued a Travel Alert for the west, central, and southeast regions of North Dakota due to heavy snow causing snow covered roads and areas of reduced visibility. Motorists should be advised that snowfog may be created when meeting or passing vehicles. Drivers should reduce speed and increase following distance. Cities included in the alert are Williston, Minot, Dickinson, Bismarck, Jamestown, Valley City, Fargo, Wapheton" and the areas surrounding those cities.
