A three-vehicle accident west of Devils Lake on U.S. Highway 2 injured four people Tuesday evening, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported Thursday.

At 7:23 p.m. Tuesday, an eastbound 2005 GMC pickup driven by Michael Wavra, 44, of East Grand Forks, crashed into the back of a 1999 Mercury Cougar that was stalled and parked on the shoulder of the road.

The impact caused the Mercury to crash into a 1988 Honda Civic that was preparing to tow the stalled car back to Minot to be repaired. After colliding with the car, Wavra's GMC pickup continued eastbound and rolled into the south ditch.

The three vehicles were totaled in the accident.

The driver of the Mercury, Karl Buechler, 19, of Minot, was cited for not having liability insurance. Hayden Gilliam, a Minot juvenile who was driving the Honda, also was cited for not having insurance.
