Braaten and Selleys were traveling south in a 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette van on Minnesota Highway 32. Tinkler, driving a northbound 1996 Dodge Intrepid, crossed the center line, resulting in the crash, according to the State Patrol.
Braaten, the driver of the van, and Selleys, died at the scene. The two women are sisters, according to Forum archives.
Tinkler, formerly of Fertile, Minn., later died at the hospital. She had been airlifted to a Fargo hospital after the crash but later died from her injuries, the State Patrol said.
Emergency crews responded to the rural Clay County crash - approximately one mile north of Ulen - about 2:10 p.m. Thursday.
The State Patrol did not release more details.
