WATFORD CITY, N.D. -- Three people were killed Thursday evening in a three-vehicle crash in northwest North Dakota.

The North Dakota Highway patrol has not released the names of the victims, but said those killed were a 30-year-old man from Rigby, Idaho, and 27-year-old man from Grand Rapids, Mich., and a  22-year-old man from Watford City, all traveling in a 1995 GMC Jimmy.

A 55-year-old man from Watford City riding in the Jimmy was injured and flown to Minot hospital.

The crash happened about 6:50 p.m. Thursday when a 2011 Nissan Versa started to pass a 2003 Ford F150 pickup on McKenzie County Road 10, about 3 miles north of Keene, a Highway Patrol release said.

The driver of the Versa saw the Jimmy in the oncoming lane. The driver attempted to move from the passing lane back into the driving and struck the pickup, causing it to spin into the path of the Jimmy, which rolled into the ditch.
