-- Tonight in the Empire: "Let the Right One In," a Swedish vampire film, will be shown at 7 tonight in the Empire Arts Center, Grand Forks, as part of the Art & Democracy Film Series sponsored by Institute for Philosophy in Public Life and North Valley Arts Council. Admission will be free; discussion will follow. About the movie: In honor of Halloween, the Institute for Philosophy in Public Life wanted an event that showed you can think philosophically about anything -- scary, funny, different, familiar -- it is all rife with philosophical issues.
John Little plays
-- Tonight in North Dakota Museum of Art: "Gone Fishing," eight short plays adapted from the writings of the late UND Writers Conference founder John Little, will be presented at 7:30 tonight in North Dakota Museum of Art. The program will include Don Crocker on acoustic guitar, "Fresh Fish" and readings by emerging writers Luke Geiver, Brian Maxwell, Eric Haagenson, Collin Kapelowitz and Heidi Czerweic. Emceeing the events will be a 6-foot-2-inch mermaid, Janessa Jayne Champagne. Tickets at the door: Nonstudents, $20; students with ID, $10; all profits go to the UND Writers Conference John Little Memorial Endowment.
-- Thursday play canceled: The Thursday performance of the one-act play "Help Wanted" by Teatro del Pueblo, set to begin at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at University of Minnesota-Crookston, has been canceled because of illness, a news release said.
