GRAND FORKS -- Everyone lately is recognizing the need to reduce taxes. It's not a Republican or Democratic issue anymore. The economy is struggling, and average citizens are looking for ways to change their lifestyle and spending habits. My family recently canceled our cable TV, and my wife has agreed to take the bus to work a few times a week to cut back on the cost of gas.

All things considered, it's a wonder to me why everyone doesn't support Measure 2, which will immediately cut personal income taxes in half and corporate income taxes by 15 percent. It seems like a no-brainer to me.

And both candidates for governor have proposed tax cuts that are far costlier than Measure 2 would be. Democratic candidate Tim Mathern's plan has tax rate cuts as high as 75 percent, which are significantly higher than the 50 percent proposed by Measure 2. So clearly, both sides of the political spectrum see a need to reduce the taxpayer burden on North Dakotans.

Voting for Measure 2 on Election Day just makes sense.
