Symphony orchestra to open season Oct. 7

Everett has signed a contract to continue to lead the orchestra through the 2008-2009 concert season, which will mark the BSO's 70th year.

The opening concert will feature the "Russian and Ludmilla Overture" by Mikhail Glinka, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, and the Trumpet Concert by contemporary composer Alexander Arutiunian, featuring Del Lyren. Major orchestral works will be performed at all four season concerts, which will feature guest soloists.

-- Nov. 11: "Dreams in Threes," with the Beethoven Triple Concerto, with Patrick Riley, cello, Steve Carlson, piano, and Michelle Lalbertie, violin. Guest organist Sarah Carlson will join the orchestra in the Saint Saens "Organ" Symphony.

-- March 2: "Classic Dreams" with Alan Zhou, violinist.

-- April 13: "Carnival of Dreams" with duo pianists Chiu Ling Line and Chiu Tze Lin and soprano Carrie Mineck.

All concerts will be at 3 p.m. at Bemidji High School Auditorium, at 3 p.m. Season tickets are $30; individual concerts $10. Both season and individual concert tickets will be available at the door Oct. 7. Info: www.bemidjisymphony.org .
