DEVILS LAKE-A Lake Region State College student pleaded not guilty Thursday on charges alleging he sexually assaulted a woman on campus in September while she was unaware.

Lloyd Halvorson, vice president of student affairs, confirmed that Hamed Mubarak Said, who also goes by Hamed Al-Mazrouai, is still a student at the school. He did not comment on whether the school is conducting an investigation into the allegations or if Said has faced any disciplinary actions.

An affidavit for 24-year-old Said's arrest provided few details, but said he "did engage in a sexual act with a woman while she was unaware that a sexual act was being committed on her."

A case synopsis from the DNA Evidence Information Sheet said the woman was sexually assaulted at the college on Sept. 29. DNA samples were taken from Said for testing, the documents said.

Said was released on a $50,000 bond in October and a Ramsey County judge modified his release conditions in December to allow him to travel out of the country and enter campus buildings previously restricted to him for prayer.

If convicted, Said could spend up to 20 years in prison. He's scheduled to appear in court again April 16.
