FARGO – A stabbing inside a pickup Wednesday afternoon prompted a teenage suspect to dash through a construction zone at a busy Fargo interchange, police said.
Obsa Ali Omer, 18, of Fargo, eluded officers for about an hour before he was arrested in a nearby apartment building, Lt. Joel Vettel said. Omer was booked into the Cass County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Omer and the 41-year-old driver had been riding in the pickup for some time before the stabbing occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at an intersection near Interstate 94. The relationship between the men was unclear, as was the motive for the stabbing, Vettel said.
After Omer used a knife to stab the driver in the arm, the pickup sat in the intersection, clogging traffic in the construction zone until it was moved. Medics treated the victim for wounds that were not life-threatening, Vettel said.

As Omer fled, he crossed I-94 through a caged walkway and outran construction workers who pursued him. Police established a perimeter around the area, and by 3 p.m. they had found Omer in a hallway of the apartment building, about a half-mile from the stabbing scene. He was arrested without incident.
Police recovered the knife and clothing that Omer shed while running, Vettel said.
