MINNEAPOLIS -- A 75-year-old woman died Friday night as the result of burns suffered in a cooking fire at her St. Paul apartment a few hours earlier, authorities said.
Willie M. Coleman died at 9 p.m. at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where she'd been rushed after being burned when a pan of grease caught fire on the stove in her apartment in the 500 block of Humboldt Avenue, said St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard. She apparently had been trying to move the flaming pot when her clothing caught fire just after 5:45 p.m. She suffered severe burns on her upper torso.
There was no damage to her apartment, which did not have a fire sprinkler system, Zaccard said.
"Our deepest condolences go out to Willie Coleman's family and friends for this tragic loss," Zaccard wrote in a news release.
Coleman's death marks St. Paul's fourth fire fatality of the year.
