ST. PAUL
A St. Paul man remained in serious condition Monday at Regions Hospital after he was dragged about two blocks early Friday when he apparently tried to stop an acquaintance from driving drunk.
The acquaintance, a 24-year-old man from West St. Paul, posted bail and was released from the Dakota County jail pending further investigation. He is expected to be charged by summons later. Authorities are waiting to see how the victim, Kyle Kissinger, fares; that could determine the level of criminal charges brought against the suspect, said West St. Paul police Lt. Brian Sturgeon.
The incident happened just after 2:30 a.m. Friday outside the Commercial Club bar on S. Robert Street in West St. Paul. Kissinger and the suspect had been at the bar together with a group of friends. Kissinger attempted to stop the man from getting behind the wheel and apparently got hung up in the car as the man pulled away. Kissinger ended up near Oakdale Avenue and Haskell Street.
Kissinger, 24, suffered severe brain trauma. Sturgeon said he has regained consciousness and is expected to survive. But it's "a wait and see game on how he comes out of this," Sturgeon said.
