A St. Paul Park man who told police he sells marijuana for extra money was convicted for assaulting a man over a $20 drug debt.

Shaun Nelson Gandy, 31, was sentenced April 7 after pleading guilty to felony third-degree assault in Washington County District Court.

According to the criminal complaint:

Gandy showed up at a St. Paul Park business July 27, 2015, and started yelling at an employee. Gandy approached the man and punched him in the head, knocking him out.

The victim suffered a concussion, head injuries and a broken tooth.

Gandy told police the man owed him $20 for a marijuana sale and “(I) just knocked the (expletive) out, that’s all,” the complaint says. Gandy said he took off his earrings and sunglasses because he knew he was going to fight.

Gandy was sentenced to five years of probation and 81 days in jail, with credit for that time already served. A 15-month prison sentence was stayed for the duration of the probation term.
