Grand Forks police are reminding would-be Springfest participants about city laws regarding partying and drinking, among other things.
Springfest, a celebration traditionally held the weekend before finals week at University Park, falls on May 10 this year. Though a music event organized by Rhombus Guys pizzeria is now held at the park on that day, students also celebrate at homes nearby and elsewhere in the city.
Police said in a news release that noisy parties are defined as a gathering of two or more that’s loud enough it can be heard from 50 feet away or from the adjacent apartment. Police said if officers come to the door, even if a renter is not cited, it could “generate a ‘strike’ against the property,” which can affect the landlord’s ability to use the property as rental unit. It can also affect the renter’s ability to rent in the city in the future.
The release also noted that drinking in parks is allowed only with a permit, but none will be given out for University Park on May 10 except to Rhombus Guys.
