Special Olympics North Dakota is planning a fundraiser April 6 that will reveal something perhaps unknown about some local politicians, teachers, bankers, lawyers, doctors, coaches, military personnel and others. Can they dance?
"Dancing for Special Stars" will begin at 6:15 p.m. April 6 with a reception at Empire Arts Center followed by a contest at 7 p.m. and a "Meet and Greet the Dancers" after the show.
The event will pair area celebrities, such as Grand Forks Mayor Mike Brown and WDAZ TV's Cassie Walder and Milo Smith, with dance instructors in a contest patterned after the popular "Dancing with the Stars" television program.
Hal Gershman will emcee. Other contestants will be announced and instructors will include UND students and other professionals from throughout the community.
Each couple will perform a dance of their choice. At the end of the evening, audience members will cast their votes for their favorite couple with their checkbooks. Every dollar donated, including those used to purchase admission tickets, will count as a point, and the couple with the most points will be declared the winner.
