The Sorlie Bridge will be closing at noon Monday due to rising flood waters, city officials from Grand Forks and East Grand Forks announced Sunday.

The closures at the Sorlie Bridge on Demers Avenue need to be installed from the wet side of the floodwalls causing crews to close the bridge prior to water impacting the road, the city of Grand Forks said in a press release.

The bridge will remain closed until river levels have receded below action levels and crews have dismantled the floodwall closures. The bridge, along with the approach roadways, will also have to be inspected for safety before it reopens.

It is not known when the bridge will reopen.

People who use the Sorlie Bridge are asked to find alternate routes. Suggested routes are the Kennedy Bridge on Highway 2/Gateway Drive or the Thompson Bridge south of East Grand Forks, as the Point Bridge is also subject to closure with the forecasted river levels, according to the East Grand Forks flood Facebook page.
