Snow in region near Grand Forks; more stormy weather ahead

The Red River Valley saw a mix of rain and snowfall Monday morning and meteorologists say there could be more as the week continues.

Six inches of snow fell in Petersburg, N.D., by 6:30 a.m. Monday. Nearby Michigan, N.D., had 2 inches of snow. Walhalla also saw 2 inches and Roosevelt, Minn., got an inch and a half of snow. Grand Forks saw mostly light rainfall Monday.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Brad Hopkins said he doesn't expect the snow to stick around for long because temperatures are expected to stay above freezing for most of the week.

High temperatures are expected to linger in the 40s and lows will drop into the 30s throughout the next seven to 10 days, Hopkins said.

He expects another storm system to move through the region again late Tuesday and into Wednesday, although it won't be severe. Hopkins said he expects to see around a quarter-inch of precipitation from the storm, or up to a half inch at most.

Average temperatures for this time of year are in the 60s, so Hopkins said the region will be seeing slightly cooler weather for the next week, although nothing too unusual.
