FARGO - The size of the Minnesota diversion seen as the best deal for the nation's flood protection dollar may nearly double, U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy, N.D., told The Forum today.
Pomeroy said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers could announce Thursday that the Red River diversion in Minnesota seen as the National Economic Development plan could be a 35,000 cubic feet per second channel - possibly larger.
That's compared with a 20,000 cubic feet per second channel that's been the leading contender for months.
"The important thing is that establishes the federal participation level. So as the corps analysis drives toward a larger plan, it means there will be more federal funds to assist in this project," Pomeroy said.
A North Dakota 35,000 cubic feet per second diversion is the local choice.

Corps officials will be in Fargo Thursday to present their findings to the Metro Flood Study Work Group.
