Campers of the Sherlock Campground in East Grand Forks are being encouraged to show off their patriotic side for a decorating contest.
The campground is hosting its second annual Most Patriotic Campsite Contest, with judging set to begin on the Fourth of July, though campers were encouraged to decorate whenever they arrive, Park Manager Catherine Johnson said.
Not every campsite has to be decked out in stars and stripes - maple leaf decorations are more than welcome.
"We have Canadians here, too, so we just called it 'most patriotic,'" Johnson said.
Last year, about 20 campsites participated in the contest, tying ribbons around trees, hanging lights and putting up flags. Johnson said she hopes additional advertising this year will bring in more participants.

"(Some campers) got here and said, 'Oh we have all kinds of stuff at home, I wish we would have known,'" Johnson said.
Judging for the contest will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The campground started the contest as part of a plan to have more annual events like others in the area while not competing with those events, Johnson said.
There is potential for expansion such as organizing a kiddie part during the Fourth of July holiday next year, she added.
