Tests confirm two severed fingers found on a picnic table in East Grand Forks last week are human fingers, police say.

The fingers were found by Melissa and Morty Atkinson’s 6-year-old Thursday while the family was setting up their campsite at Red River State Recreation Area.

The family, from Lonsdale, Minn., was camping there for Memorial Day weekend, but after discovering the fingers and notifying police, they decided to camp in Warren, Minn., instead.

The fingers were sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in Bemidji, Minn. for more testing, but East Grand Forks Police haven’t received further results yet, Police Detective Tony Hart said.
