WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Funeral services have been set for former U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, who died Saturday at age 79.
Oberstar, a Chisholm native who represented the 8th District - which includes Northeastern Minnesota - from 1975 to 2011, was the longest-serving member of Congress in Minnesota history. He died in his sleep at his Maryland home.
A wake will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Joseph Gawler’s Sons funeral home, 5130 Wisconsin Ave NW in Washington, D.C.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, Md. Interment will be private, according to a death notice in the Washington Post.

There was no immediate word on any plans for a memorial service in Minnesota.
