ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board on Tuesday fined the Minnesota Democratic Senate campaign $100,000 for violating state campaign rules.
Republicans filed a complaint alleging that various Democratic campaigns in 2012 shared photos, but were supposed to be working independently. That amounted to a violation of campaign rules, the board decided.
"I'm pleased to see this matter resolved," said Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk, D-Cook. "We continue to maintain that our candidates and the caucus campaign committee complied with all campaign finance laws. Although we respectfully disagree with the board's position, we believe it is better to put this matter behind us."
The fine is one of the state's largest dealing with a campaign violation.
