Two men were hospitalized when a semi-trailer struck a pickup with an attached trailer at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Polk County Road 9 and Minnesota Highway 220 about 10 miles south of East Grand Forks, straight west of Crookston.
According to the State Patrol, Jarrod Anderson, 18, Moorhead, was driving a white 2000 Ford 250 pickup truck east on County 9. After stopping at the intersection, he pulled out in front of a southbound 2007 Volvo semi-truck tractor hauling lumber for BRT trucking of Rockford, Minn., on a flat-bed trailer.
Semi driver Terry Page, 54, of Merrifield, Minn., said he veered to the right to hit the rear driver's side of the pickup that failed to yield. He also hit the trailer the pickup was pulling. The pickup ended up in the ditch in the southeast corner of the intersection, a few feet from the truck, still on the roadway, facing it.
Anderson had three passengers; two were taken to Altru Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to law enforcement. Their names were not released. The third passenger, as well as Anderson and Page, who were wearing seat belts, were not injured.
The injured men was temporary workers for Games Galore of Fargo, helping haul the trailer full of inflatable games to a company picnic for American Crystal Sugar workers from the Crookston factory, said Dave Lerud, owner of Games Galore.

The passenger in the pickup who was not injured said Anderson stopped at the intersection but did not see the semi-truck approaching.
Lerud said a tow truck pulled the pickup and trailer to the picnic, where his workers set up an obstacle course and bouncy castle in time for the picnic.
