School district names new principals for next school year

Two new principals have been appointed to head Grand Forks elementary schools, effective with the start of the 2017-18 school year.

Leslie Bjelde, building resource coordinator at J. Nelson Kelly Elementary School in Grand Forks, has been named principal at Ben Franklin Elementary School.

In her current role, she evaluates teachers and provides ongoing technology professional development to staff members, among other duties.

Bjelde, who holds a master's degree in general education from UND, replaces Beth Randklev, who is retiring.

David Saxberg, an elementary principal in Jamestown, N.D., has been named principal at Century Elementary School.

Saxberg, who holds a doctorate in educational leadership from UND, has experience that includes using the Marzano Teacher Evaluation model and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support program.

He assumes the role vacated by Cindy Cochran, who is retiring.
