Fatal crash: A car rolled over and crashed into Devils Lake early Friday morning, killing a Fort Totten, N.D., man, according to the Highway Patrol.

The 1999 Ford Escort, driven by a 17-year-old, was northbound on state Highway 20, five miles south of Devils Lake when it left the road. The car went into the east ditch, hit a rock embankment, rolled and entered the lake. The car came to rest in about 5 feet of water, 15 feet from shore, according to the patrol.

The driver and the front-seat passenger, Delvin Greywater Jr., 19, St. Michael, N.D., got out of the car. The 24-year-old Fort Totten man was not able to exit the vehicle. His name has not been released.

The driver, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, and Greywater were treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.

Sgt. Dan Haugen said no one has been cited in connection with the crash. He would not say whether alcohol was a factor in the crash because the driver is a juvenile.

As of Friday night, he was being held in Grand Forks County jail, a jail spokeswoman said.
