Jim Morris, a former major league baseball player whose life story was the inspiration behind the 2002 film "The Rookie," will speak Monday at the annual Riverside Christian School Banquet & Silent Auction at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.
Morris was played by Dennis Quaid in the film, which was recognized by Sports Illustrated as one of the best 50 sports films of all time. The film is the story of a high school teacher and coach who realizes a lifelong ambition at age 39 to play minor league ball and then gets called up to the big club.
Morris' inspirational and motivational message about following through on your dreams connects with audiences of all ages.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. Monday for the silent auction.
