A Rolette, N.D., man charged with assault in federal court was sentenced Monday to two years of probation, the U.S. attorney's office said in a news release.
The office reported that Leslie Thomas, 58, was at a bar north of Dunseith, N.D., on Nov. 12, 2008, when he got into a quarrel with a group of people.
Authorities said Thomas drove away from the bar and stopped his vehicle to get a shotgun and ammunition from the trunk. He drove back and fired the gun into the crowd, leaving two people with injuries that were not life-threatening, the office said.
