After being in mothballs for almost six years, the Riverside Pool will reopen Monday.
It will remain open through Aug. 30, a week longer than the south-end Elks Pool is open.
"We wanted to get a full 20 days in to see how the equipment operates," said Bill Palmiscno, superintendent of recreation for the Grand Forks Park District.
"The construction contract called for it to be filled, run and then shut down, so if they had to do that, we figured we might as well use it. Plus, people down there have been waiting a long time for their pool."
The pool was last used in late August 2003. After several years of paying for flood damage, the park district decided not to reopen it. But overwhelming support by the voters in the June 2008 election prompted the City Council to pay the $1 million in needed repairs. The city owns the pool, which is on the wet side of the dike, but the park district manages it.

Pool hours are noon to 8:30 p.m. weekdays and 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. After school starts Aug. 26, the pool likely will be open only evenings on the weekdays.
Admission is $1 for ages 4 and younger, $2.50 for 5-16 and $3 for adults, $10 for a group of five or fewer and $40 for the season.
The pool will be the same as past users remember. The major difference will be the bathhouse that has undergone a dramatic makeover.
"Hopefully, August will be a hot month," Palmiscno said.
