Rep. Rick Berg, R-N.D., announced today that he will serve as an original co-sponsor for a bill that would repeal the health care reform legislation passed by Congress last March.
The "Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act" was sponsored by Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., and is expected to be voted on in the House next week.
Berg and several other Republican lawmakers have announced their co-sponsorship of the bill since it was introduced on Monday.
During his successful campaign against incumbent Democrat Earl Pomeroy last year, Berg criticized the Affordable Care Act and said he would support efforts to repeal it if elected.
In a written statement today, Berg said North Dakotans have sent a "loud message" to Congress that they did not want the "government takeover of health care."

He said North Dakota has weathered the recession with low unemployment and a good business environment, but the rest of the nation is "still struggling."
"This job killing, $500 billion tax is not what our economy needs," Berg wrote. "I am committed to listening to North Dakotans and working toward repealing President Obama's national health care law and replacing it with one that puts patients and their doctors, not government bureaucrats, in control, of their health care decisions."
