An unnerving array of Halloween decorations lined the tables of Reynolds, N.D., City Hall this weekend.

The sale was the result of Reynolds Community Betterment’s decision to close the town’s haunted house and liquidate its inventory. Masks, props like graveyard markers and scarecrows, and other pieces of blood-curdling bounty were up for sale.

Jen Rogers, a member of the betterment group, said a lack of volunteers and the toll the haunted house would put on the newly renovated City Hall factored into their decision. The haunted house was open for nine years, six of which were at City Hall, according to Rogers.

“It was extremely popular,” she said.

The proceeds from the weekend’s sale will go to purchase stage equipment at City Hall, Rogers said. Reynolds Community Betterment is a local organization that supports community projects in and around Reynolds, which is about 20 miles south of Grand Forks.

Rogers said there was an initial rush Saturday, with a casket among the first items to go. Laurie Skibicki said she’ll use it as a Halloween decoration in her front lawn.
