Red's crest at Pembina lowered again as river's rise flattens out

The National Weather Service lowered its crest prediction for the Red River at Pembina, N.D., late Saturday for the second day in a row as the river's rise remained nearly flat for about 48 hours near 52 feet.

The weather service now predicts the Red will crest at 52.5 feet Tuesday or Wednesday. That's only about six inches from where it's appeared to level off the past two days.

On Friday, the weather service lowered its crest prediction from 53.4 feet to 53 feet.

The record crest was 54.9 feet in 1997; second-highest was 52.7 feet in 2009.

It's stayed within an inch on either side of 52 feet for two days and was at 51.95 feet at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
