Red River State Recreation Area in East Grand Forks is opening for camping today, despite being under water just a few weeks ago.

Fifty-four of the park's 72 campsites were opened as of 3 p.m. today, according to Gladwin Lynne, park manager.

"We're open for business for the camping season," he said.

The campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reserved campsites will be available beginning May 15.

Park officials also are planning an open house June 7, when entrance is free. Refreshments will be provided. More information will be available later, according to Lynne.
