A revised flood forecast issued today predicts the Red River in Grand Forks will surpass flood stage of 28 feet on Monday, according to the National Weather Service website.
The Red River should reach 30.5 feet by Wednesday, according to the weather service's seven-day outlook.
The weather service said the recent storm and heavy rains are causing the Red and its tributaries to rise; on Tuesday, Grand Forks set the unofficial record for the date with 1.14 inches of rain.
City crews in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks generally don't take any action until the river reaches about 38 feet.
So far, October's total rainfall - excluding today - is at 2.28 inches, slightly more than at this time a year ago and 0.82 inches more than normal, according to the weather service website.

Since Sept. 1, 7.56 inches of precipitation have been recorded in Grand Forks - more than double the normal amount for this time of year. Last year, 2.9 inches of precipitation had been recorded by Oct. 26.
Since Jan. 1, Grand Forks precipitation has totaled 26.31 inches, according to weather service records; that's approaching nine inches more than normal. Last year, the total at this time was 16.36 inches.
The Red River in Fargo also is expected to reach flood stage of 18 feet early next week, and the Red in Oslo is expected to pass its flood stage of 26 feet on Tuesday.
