A Red Lake, Minn., man who tried to run over tribal officers during a chase was shot and injured before he was arrested on Thanksgiving Day, the Beltrami County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
Fabian English, 24, was being treated today in Bemidji at North Country Regional Hospital, which would not disclose his condition.
English is in custody on suspicion of assaulting officers, burglary, theft and fleeing, the department said. Attempts to speak with him over the phone at the hospital were not successful today.
At about 5 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, a man reported that his vehicle had been stolen from his home in Turtle Lake Township and that another vehicle was on fire nearby.
Authorities responded to the scene and learned that the burned vehicle had been stolen from a home not far away. At that second home, authorities found another stolen vehicle on fire. It was also discovered that guns had been taken from the first home.

Deputies identified English as a suspect, and they found him driving north, but he fled when they tried to stop him, the department said.
The department said deputies chased him to the border of the Red Lake Indian Reservation where tribal police took over the pursuit. The chase eventually ended west of the town of Red Lake on state Highway 1.
The news release from the sheriff's department did not say who shot English, but only that he "suffered a single gunshot wound" after trying to run over the officers.
Beltrami County's director of emergency management, Beryl Wernberg, who issued the release, declined to share more details about the shooting and referred questions to the Minneapolis office of the FBI, which is investigating the matter. The FBI did not return a message left by the Herald today, nor did Red Lake police.
