A Red Lake, Minn., man must serve five years in prison and three years of supervised release for pouring scalding water and food on a woman, causing third-degree burns on her head, shoulders, arms and back, the U.S. attorney's office said in a news release.
Ronald Dean Oakgrove, 42, pleaded guilty in April to a charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. U.S. District Court Judge John Tunheim sentenced Oakgrove on Thursday in Fergus Falls, Minn.
In a plea agreement, Oakgrove admitted to dumping a pot of boiling water, grease and beef over the woman's head Dec. 15, 2008. As he left the residence, he said, "I hope you die!" according to an FBI affidavit.
The Red Lake Police Department arrested Oakgrove Dec. 16, 2008, and he was indicted Jan. 13.
