BISMARCK -- North Dakota Public Service Commissioners, after meeting with Otter Tail Power representatives this morning, decided they would not approve a company proposal to extend customers payments for this winter's high electricity bills out through the summer or beyond.
Instead, the PSC agreed to issue a press release urging Other Tail customers to call the company and sign up for its Even Monthly Payment program, which averages customers bills out over each year.
Commissioners questioned the company plan for several reasons, including their concern that the company planned to charge 6.33 percent interest on the deferred bills.
Customers who normally get their bills very early in the month likely won't be able to get their high power costs from February rolled into the EMP program even if they call today, because those bills will begin going out Monday, company representatives said during the conference call with commissioners this morning.
