BISMARCK -- The Luverne (N.D.) Wind Farm's first phase may get final approval this morning at a special Public Service Commission meeting.
It involves permits for a planned group of as many as 72 wind turbines that would produce 108 megawatts of electricity, plus an associated 13 miles of 230-kilovolt transmission line to carry the power to market.
It's part of a planned 157-megawatt wind farm project announced in January by M-Power LLC, a local company in Griggs and Steele counties.
The first phase, which is the project under consideration this morning, is owned by M-Power. A public hearing was held in August in Cooperstown, N.D.
The second phase of the project will be developed by Otter Tail Power and would consist of as many as 33 turbines generating 49.5 megawatts of power. Otter Tail has its application before the PSC, and the public has until Nov. 26 to ask the PSC to hold a public hearing.
