BISMARCK – North Dakota Public Service Commission Chairman Brian Kalk will formally announce his re-election campaign in his hometown of Bottineau on Wednesday, followed by a campaign tour around the state.
Kalk, a Republican, is seeking a second term after winning a six-year term on the commission in 2008.
Fargo businessman Todd Reisenauer is seeking the Democratic-NPL Party’s endorsement to challenge Kalk in the November election.
A Marine Corps veteran, Kalk holds a doctorate degree in natural resource management from North Dakota State University. He taught at NDSU before being elected to the commission.

In a news release Tuesday, Kalk said the state faces a series of energy-related challenges that must be treated “as opportunities and not roadblocks.”
“I have the knowledge, experience and leadership skills to balance the many needs of North Dakotans while keeping our state as the envy of the nation,” he said.
Kalk will make his initial announcement at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Veterans’ Club in Bottineau.
