Woodbury and Cottage Grove firefigthers are working to extinguish a house fire that started after a gas propane tank exploded this afternoon, May 27.
The fire is located on the 5700 block of Fawn Trail Circle in southwestern Woodbury, near Cottage Grove and Newport. According to the dispatch call, a gas grill malfunctioned, causing the grill's propane tank to explode. The explosion set the home's backyard deck on fire. The fire then spread to the home.
The residents were cooking at the time of the fire. They were evacuated, and no injuries occurred.
An all-call dispatch to Woodbury Fire was issued to just after 4:30 p.m. Due to the location of the home, mutual aid for tanker trucks was requested several minutes later. Firefighters cut down a tree on the wooded lot and used a ladder truck to attack the fire from a safe distance within the trees.
According to Washington County property records, the home was built in 1979. It has a living space of 2,065 square feet.

By 5:20 p.m., fire fighters were still working to knock down the blaze. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
