Preliminary autopsy results show a 3-month-old baby died of natural causes Sunday, said Grand Forks Police Det. Brett Johnson on Tuesday. At 12:41 p.m. Sunday, police and rescue workers were called to an apartment at 824 S. 25th St.. The child's mother, 18, was performing CPR on the infant. Emergency care in Altru Hospital was unsuccessful. No other information, including the name of the mother, was released Tuesday.

Dr. Mary Ann Sens, the pathologist who conducted the autopsy, said final results may not be complete for two or three weeks or more. Several possibilities of natural death are being considered, including sudden infant death syndrome and illness, she said.
