Possible projects for Drayton Dam to be studied

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, and the City of Drayton, N.D., will study possible projects for the Drayton Dam on the Red River of the North during the next 12 to 18 months.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, and the City of Drayton, N.D., will study possible projects for the Drayton Dam on the Red River of the North during the next 12 to 18 months.

The dam needs repairs to assure city water supplies, reduce dangerous undercurrents from water flows over the dam, and allow fish to migrate upstream, according to a Corps news release today.

Total costs would be split, with the district paying 65 percent of study costs and the city 35 percent. Additional state and local entities would likely assist Drayton with cost sharing, the release said.

There will public meetings as well as review of any draft report produced. The schedule for the meetings has not been determined.

For more information about the study, call (701) 454-3590 or (651) 290-5260.
