Poll: Emmer, Dayton nearly tied in Minnesota governor race

The two major party candidates in Minnesota's governor race are virtually tied with less than six weeks to go until Election Day, according to new poll results released Friday.

The two major party candidates in Minnesota's governor race are virtually tied with less than six weeks to go until Election Day, according to new poll results released Friday.

A Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of 500 likely Minnesota voters, conducted Wednesday, shows Republican candidate Tom Emmer with 42 percent to DFL challenger Mark Dayton's 41 percent.

Independence Party candidate Tom Horner got the support of 9 percent of respondents, and 6 percent said they'd vote for some other candidate.

The poll shows Emmer with a 1-point lead, but it's not enough to be beyond the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.

Emmer has gained 6 points and Dayton has lost 4 points since an Aug. 12 poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports. That poll showed Dayton with a comfortable 45 percent to 36 percent lead over Emmer, while 10 percent of respondents said they'd vote for Horner.

This month's poll also shows a dramatic drop in the number of people who said they're not sure who they will vote for in November. Just 2 percent of respondents said they were undecided this time around; 10 percent said so in the Aug. 12 poll.
