Grand Forks police are continuing to investigate a fire early this month at the historic Masonic Lodge in downtown after investigators deemed the cause of the fire “suspicious.”

Police believe the fire was set and are investigating it as an arson case, said Lt. Jim Remer, of the Grand Forks Police Department.

He said Tuesday there were no suspects.

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded to reports of smoke billowing from the temple’s windows early in the morning of Oct. 2, quickly locating and extinguishing the fire.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no one was injured.

An office in the temple sustained moderate damage, and there was smoke damage throughout the building, said Battalion Chief Mike Sandry, of the Grand Forks Fire Department earlier this month.

The Masonic Temple was built between 1913 and 1915 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Remer said the investigation is ongoing.
