WORTHINGTON, Minn. - Local police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that took place Friday evening.
The Worthington Police Department received a 911 call at 9:55 p.m. Friday from staff at Crossroads Care Center, reporting the firing of gunshots in a private room at the facility. Upon arriving at the private room, officers found George Droust, 87, sitting on a bed with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. Doris Droust, 86, was found lying in an adjacent bed, also with a gunshot wound to the head.
A handgun was recovered in the room, according to a Worthington Police Department press release. George Droust was a Worthington resident, and Doris Droust resided at Crossroads Care Center.
Worthington police officers, Nobles County deputies and Sanford Ambulance personnel performed first aid on both of the individuals, the press release added, and both George and Doris Droust were transported to Sanford Worthington Medical Center. They were later transferred to Sioux Falls, S.D., where they were both pronounced dead.

Police had notified family members of the deaths by Saturday morning, after which time Worthington Director of Public Safety Mike Cumiskey issued the press release. No other information was available.
