MOORHEAD, Minn. – The identity of a man found dead in the Red River on Sept. 29 eluded Moorhead detectives for a week. But on Monday, police sought the public’s help, and within three hours they learned the man’s name thanks to tipsters.
Although police have identified the man, they did not release his name because his family had not been notified as of Monday evening, Moorhead police said.
Lt. Tory Jacobson said a boater found the body floating in the river on Sept. 29, and firefighters recovered it from under a train bridge near Davy Memorial Park. The body had been in the water for an unknown amount of time, Jacobson said.
The body was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Moorhead police have not yet received the autopsy results, so how the man died is still unclear. But at this point, there’s no evidence to suggest foul play, police said.
