A Grand Forks man was arrested early Saturday morning after police who responded to a report of gunfire said they found explosives in his apartment.
Police responded at 5:33 a.m. to 2222 S. 17th St. after a caller told dispatchers a gun was discharged in an adjacent apartment. Police discovered that a bullet went through the floor of the apartment officers investigated as the source of the discharged weapon and into an occupied apartment below, police said. No one was injured from the gunshot.
Police determined Jeffrey B. Cutter was a resident in the apartment where the gun was fired and officers obtained a search warrant. The Grand Forks Regional Bomb Squad was called after detectives “noted several concerning items” that were found in the apartment, according to the news release.
The bomb squad seized several items that were determined to be explosive in nature, according to the release. No further details on the explosives were given.
The apartment was not evacuated during the incident and there appears to be no threat to the public, police said.
Cutter was arrested and booked at the Grand Forks County jail. He faces Class C felony charges of reckless endangerment and possession of prohibited explosives. A court date in the case had not been set as of Saturday.
