A couple reported that two men they know busted open the front door of their Grand Forks home Thursday and assaulted and threatened them before driving off, Sgt. Kevin Kallinen said.

A couple reported that two men they know busted open the front door of their Grand Forks home Thursday and assaulted and threatened them before driving off, Sgt. Kevin Kallinen said.

"This wasn't a random thing," Kallinen said. "They were looking for them and went right into their residence for them."

Shortly before 11 a.m., police were called to the 400 block of Conklin Avenue, and a description of the suspects' vehicle was broadcast to area officers. The attack left the man and woman, whom police did not name, with bumps and bruises.

"It looks like the guy was the one that took the brunt of the injuries," Kallinen said.

He said one of the men might have been an ex-boyfriend of the woman but did not know why the couple was targeted.

About 12:45 p.m., officers acting on a tip went to the downtown bus station and arrested a Cotulla, Texas, man who was about to board a bus headed for his home state, police said.

Felix Ayala, 18, was booked at the Grand Forks County jail on suspicion of committing burglary. He could face other charges, including assault and terrorizing, Kallinen said.

A message left for Ayala at the jail was not immediately returned.

Kallinen said police know the name of the other suspect and continue to look for him.
