Law enforcement officers responded to a report of a person jumping into the Red River from the Sorlie Bridge early Saturday morning, according to the East Grand Forks Police Department.
Officer Dennis Robertson said a witness told authorities that a person had jumped from the bridge connecting downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks on DeMers Avenue at about 12:30 a.m.
The fire departments from both cities put boats into the river to conduct a search for the person, whose identity, residence and age has not been released. Additionally, police officers from Grand Forks and deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.
The Grand Forks Fire Department got the call at 12:42 a.m., and was on-scene for about an hour and a half.
But as the river search was ongoing, a witness came forward and said they believed the jumper had gotten out of the river and left the scene before authorities arrived, Robertson said. No one was charged with a crime, he said.
