Patrol releases name of Rolla man dead from injuries in crash near Lisbon

A Rolla, N.D., man failed to stop at a signed intersection late Saturday night east of Lisbon, N.D., sending his vehicle into a ditch and sustaining injuries that led to his death.

Don Bradley Bjugstad, 56, was driving south on paved Ransom County Road 54, south of Sheldon, N.D., about 11:15 p.m., Saturday. When he came to a stop sign at state Highway 27, nine miles east of Lisbon, he failed to stop and went into the south-side ditch, said Sgt. Josh Rude of the North Dakota Highway Patrol Monday in releasing his name.

Bjugstad's 2003 Dodge Caravan went across Highway 27 into the south ditch, "vaulted and struck a thicket of trees before coming to rest facing east," according to Rude.

The intersection effectively is a dead-end on the south-side; a county street continues south slightly off-set from County 54, Rude said.

Bjugstad was airlifted to Essentia Hospital in Fargo where he died Sunday morning from his injuries.

He was not wearing a seat belt and the paved roadways and the weather were clear, according to Rude.

The Sheyenne River runs along the west side of the intersection but was not a factor in the accident, Rude said.

The van was totaled.
