An accident on the 2100 block of DeMers Avenue on Sunday afternoon sent a 60-year-old Mississippi man to Altru Hospital by ambulance and closed down the eastbound lanes for a short time.

About 3:20 p.m., Charlie Havard, 60, Leaksville, Miss., was entering DeMers from a frontage road in a 1995 Chevy pickup, according to the Grand Forks Police Department. He failed to yield and struck a 1999 Ford expedition traveling east on Demers on the driver's side, police said.

The driver of the expedition, Rick Nygaard, 50, Grand Forks was uninjured, along with a male passenger in the pickup, according to the police.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged and Havard was cited for failure to yield at a controlled intersection, police said.
