Surrounded by people in the Empire Arts Center lobby Thursday evening, Amy Sanner said she felt overwhelmed and uplifted.
The Empire hosted an "Old-fashioned Variety Show and Silent Auction" to benefit Brad Sanner's family, as he has been diagnosed with multiple medical conditions and is currently in cancer treatment.
"Everybody's been so kind and gracious," said Amy, Brad's wife, as she waited for him to arrive at the event.
Sanner, 52, of Grand Forks, has battled medical problems including kidney failure, congestive heart failure and cancerous lymph nodes since 1997.
Most recently, he's had chemotherapy treatment for cancerous tumors.

Amy said her husband has traveled to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., about every two weeks since he was rediagnosed with melanoma in July.
The benefit Thursday included performances by the North Dakota Ballet Company, Mairi and Maura Ferguson, Bel Canto Studio, the Red River High School Music and Theater Department, the Northern Valley Youth Orchestras and the Downtown Horns.
"I just want to say a hearty thank you to everyone," Amy said. "It's been overwhelming, and it's just uplifted us."
